Left Renal Dromedary Hump

Clinical History
A 42-year-old patient presented for routine abdominal and renal ultrasound examination. There was no significant history of flank pain, hematuria, dysuria, recurrent urinary tract infection, or renal surgery. The examination was performed as part of a general abdominal sonographic evaluation.
Ultrasound Findings
Ultrasound examination of the left kidney demonstrates a smooth, focal bulging contour along the lateral aspect of the mid renal cortex. The bulge follows the echogenicity and corticomedullary architecture of the adjacent renal parenchyma and shows preserved normal renal echotexture. There is no focal cortical thinning, cortical defect, calcification, hydronephrosis, or perirenal collection. The lesion does not demonstrate a separate mass effect or abnormal internal vascularity. The appearance is characteristic of a left renal dromedary hump, representing a normal anatomical cortical variant.

Recommendation
No specific treatment or follow-up is required for an uncomplicated renal dromedary hump when the sonographic appearance is characteristic. Clinical correlation is advised. If the cortical bulge demonstrates atypical features, altered echogenicity, focal vascular abnormalities, or loss of normal corticomedullary architecture, further evaluation with appropriate cross-sectional imaging may be considered to exclude a renal mass.
